Health and Saftey
Health and Safety
There are various health and safety concerns for me to take mind of in my production. I have 4 separate shooting spots for my film, each requiring different health and safety precautions.
Our first location is the Everard arms pub. This is a chain pub situated in corby. I will be using this to film only a couple of shots for the introduction of my film, using the back room. The permission comes from the fact that one of the cast works there so we have full permission to film there. We will have to pick a time when it is either closed or not very busy to avoid interruptions and causing any issues. We will have to be careful with any probe or equipment due to it all being used in a small space. Due to the small amount of risk, this is a low level risk assessment.
Our second location is situated within the school, the Mac room. This is quite an isolated room and is one of the least busy areas of the school. This works well as it means there is little chance of interrupting any students in lesson. Secondly, we must also be careful of the equipment in the room as it is very expensive and it could possibly harm me or those around me if they were to fall and smash. I must also make sure that the glass reflections don't harm the shot and still allow me to get a good scene taken. I will also be using quite a lot of small props for this shot, so I will have to be careful not to leave the place messy incase somebody potentially trips up. This is also a low level risk assessment as we are in a safe and protected area.
Our third location is one of the cast members house. This is used in a planning shot before leaving for the mill. This is one of the safer places to film as it is within someones bedroom. Still, we must be careful of our surroundings and not cause any harm to ourselves or others. There is pets there so we must be careful for them incase anyone has any type of allergy that may be a risk. This is also a low risk area as we are at somebody's house and there is little possibility of an accident.
Fourthly, our final location is a concrete mill. This is an old shutdown concrete mill on the outskirts of town. It is potentially quite dangerous due to us filming here in the dark as well as there being potentially old machinery about. Because of this, we must not go in the mill and instead get shots around/outside it for safety reasons. We must stick together as it is quite a bit within the woods, incase one of us got lost. We have a trained first aider and will make sure to bring a kit with us incase of any small accidents. Finally, we will al come clothed appropriately to transverse the woods. This is a medium risk. It is quite out of the way and through a trek of woods, coupled with filming in the dark there is some quite serious risks here to be aware of.

Unexpected/Unforeseen Problems
As a class we discussed a range of unforeseen potential problems that could slow our projects down. We also talked about the potential ways in which we would deal with these problems, getting around them if possible or just dropping the whole idea altogether due to the problem being possibly unavoidable.
-Could be seen as a threat or a piece of weaponry and create a real threat of danger to yourself or those around you.
-Some of the props could be too large and could be unpractical to bring into school and use for shots
-Could draw too much attention to yourselves and distract other students from their classrooms
-The prop could be seen as something that is potentially distressing, upsetting or offensive, especially since I am doing the horror genre.
Solutions: Check with the school and a teacher before I bring any props in. Explain what they are and decide wether they are acceptable for the environment. Try to stay away from classrooms and busy areas with the props.
Bringing Props to School
-Could be objects that the school has banned-Could be seen as a threat or a piece of weaponry and create a real threat of danger to yourself or those around you.

Filming in school
-Child protection laws. Would need written consent from parents/guardians to take any kind of footage.
-Would need permission from the school to film on site.
-The school is made of glass, therefore every wall can possibly reflect meaning it could be hard to get good shots due to reflections and lighting.
-It is a live set and we can not control the environment around us(mostly). Will have to try stay in isolated areas of the school.
-Could possibly disturb over students around the school while they are in lessons or moving between lessons.
Solutions: Avoid any kids that are not part of your trailer and do not try to get any extras unless you need to. Take the shots during parts of the day that are not close to breakfast or lunch, and find an isolated room that is not in use.
Child Actors In a horror
-Contents of the filming could cause emotional or even physical harm to a person under the age of 18.
-All productions with child actors have to first get permission from the council due to the times of shots and knowledge that they will be taken out of school.
-Written and signed consent would have to be gathered from the parent/guardian of the actor.
-The overall health and safety of the child actor is extremely important and they must be catered to effectively
Solutions: Make sure you have gone through all the correct protocols with the council and have written signed consent from the parent/guardian as well as verbal. The film content would have to be suitable for the child even in a horror, even if they were only part of the more tame scenes.

Censorship and Regulation
Censorship and Regulation
Moving image is subject to far greater censorship than any other artistic medium, perhaps a tribute to the power the moving image can potentially has. Straight out banning of films is not as common as it used to be in the UK, and it was at a time quite a frequent occurrence. The British board of film classifications decisions on censorship and regulations are normally relevant to the current structure of society at the time. For example, in 1953, a film named ‘The Wild One’ was submitted to the board, a film showing a handsome biker gang terrorising a small gang. It was banned for 14 years due to its ‘replicable’ behaviour. However, as society changes, what we see as unacceptable changes and the film is now released as a PG.
The release of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre was banned throughout the entirety of the UK through 1974-1999, till it was then unbanned. The hysteria around violence was so strong that the BBFC actually made any film maker unable to put the word ‘Chainsaw’ in their film title. However, violence is not the only reason for banning on films.
Drug usage is also another reason multiple films were banned in the UK. Roger Corman’s film ‘The Trip’ was released and later banned in 1968 due to its ‘glorification’ of LSD. Despite there yet to be a war on drugs, this shows the attitudes to outside and different kind of artistic films during the earlier years of moving pictures.
I do not believe my film would be regulated or banned. Modern films in the UK are generally over banned due to grotesque sexual violence or extreme hate speech, which my film will have none of. There will be slight gore, but that can be dealt with an age rating and not censoring. If my film was censored however, it would be possible to just release it online and as a not for profit if needed.

Gladewick Production
Gladewick Productions
Our production company is named Gladewick Productions. We are an independent and niche film advertising company that has a deep investment in the horror genre. The company is founded and based in the UK and only deals with domestic advertising. Our goal is to advertise high quality but low budget psychological horror films that push the boundaries and that will deeply intrigue our audience.
Legal Responsibilities

Actors
Anybody that takes an active role in the film has to sign a release form. This release form allows me to use their performance in my film as well as any related marketing. I must ensure all my actors sign this release as they will be used in the footage as well as possibly for the marketing.
Secondly, there must be an agreement of Terms of Engagement. This decides how much of the actors time the producer is entitled to, such as X amount of days a week. An agreement for any post production needs of the actor or for retakes must also be discussed and settled. My actors would have a term of engagement for a couple of weeks.
Thirdly, I must agree remuneration. This is an agreement on pay and how the actor will be paid. Since it is is a shorter filming period it is likely that I pay them at the end of their shooting period, when they have shot all of their scenes. There must also be an understanding of health, and the actor must stay away from any activity that could potentially render them unable to perform.
Location
Taking on a location manager is one suggested idea. Even if untrained, this person takes sole responsibility for finding suitable filming locations as well as making sure they are safe and legal to use. Filming agreements should always be made with the landowner beforehand, instead of just meeting them on the day and trying to work something out there. The land agreement must ensure that additions and alterations to the premises are allowed, as well as making sure that we have the right to call the land by a different name in the film. Our desired location is on private ground so we will have to require permission of the landowner to film.
Insurance
Insurance is needed in the UK for any type of production, wether it is international or domestic. Public liability Insurance is required in order to receive permission to begin filming. This insurance would cover my production if the filming caused any type of harm or injury to the actors or producers, as well as covering any damage done to property.

Film Classification
Film Classification
My own film would be rated a 12. I believe 12 is the correct rating for my film(and the one that would be given to it) due to its content. My film will contain no scenes of sex as well as no references at all. Frequent sexual references/crude jokes are often the reason films are pushed over the edge to a 15 so my film is not threatened by that fact. My film however will contain occasional strong language throughout. The swearing will not be aggressive as well as not that frequent. This leads me to believe that it will past under the 12 category with no problem in relation to swearing is it will be infrequent and sparse. My film will also contain no drug use or discrimination of any type or references to either, meaning it is not threatened by these categorys. Finally, my film will contain brief violence and scenes of blood. However, there will only be a very small amount of violence and blood, with the violence not even being shown on camera, only implied. The blood use will also be very tame and will only shown once at the end of the film. Altogether, I believe my film is definitely suitable for children aged 12 and over and that this is the rating it would get.

Horror Trailer Plan
A2 Media TrailerTitle: APELLO
Age Rating: 18
APELLO is about four friends who are making a film for a media project about a local rumour. They go to an infamous spot (concrete mill), very well known in the local area where back in the 1960’s dozens of workers were killed when one of the tanks exploded and 3 other men were killed when they fell into a water filled hole and drowned (there’s actually a deep hole of water on the site with warning signs). Various rumours and tales are told, stories like people who never return upon entering. When the four boys arrive to start filming it all starts to go wrong, and what they once thought was a lie, begins to come true.
Stage I:
Four characters, Jamie (Princess), Ethan (Hero), Luke (False-hero), Ryan (The Helper II, behind camera).
All four boys are sitting in the mac room at school, researching the area and planning out their film. Background information is revealed about the site and the strange disappearances that nobody believes.
Stage II:
Ethan, Ryan, Jamie and Luke are walking up to the location through the forest, everyone admitting their nerves and an overwhelming feeling of unease. Upon arrival at the location everyone splits up and starts looking around the site, looking for places to film and thinking of ideas. When filming noises are going off, bangs, smashes that are created on purpose, then un-explained and un-planned occurrence’s start happening. Also Luke starts to act odd, bursts of anger and sadness. (Jump-scare) Ryan almost hit by object thrown by unknown person. Jamie goes to take a piss.

Stage III:
Everyone starts to panic and realise that something is off, and the gate they used to come in will not open. Luke’s fits of anger become a lot worse until he passes out and starts having a fit on the floor. Ryan notices that Jamie has not returned and sets out to find him while Ethan helps Luke. It’s clear now that there is something seriously wrong with the location they are in, but they must find Jamie before they can leave.

Stage IV:
Jamie is heard shouting for help in one of the rooms, but when Ryan try’s to open the door it is locked. When Ryan goes to look for something to open the door with, Jamie is heard screaming, Ryan eventually opens the door and Jamie is found dead covered in blood. Luke’s situation becomes worse and Ethan tells shouts for Ryan to hurry up. Jamie’s body has to be left and Ryan and Ethan who is carrying Luke make a break for the gate which they pry open. When they start to run away from the mill, they see Jamie’s lifeless body standing at the end of the road.
(The whole trailer itself will be very quiet, with a faint piano in the background in some scenes)
