Questionnaire Q9+10 Data and Analysis

This question asked the responders which horror film they hated the most. There were three responders who all said that Paranormal Activity is their most hated film. This tells me that cliched horror films and franchises with long drawn out sequels are arguably not as popular as I expected. The majority of the disliked films given are all ones with supernatural elements, even Saw slightly. This tells me that a supernatural element may not be the best choice for a modern audience.
This is the last question I asked. I asked how often they watch horror films out of Daily, weekly, monthly and other. I received no responses saying daily or weekly, with all the responses being either monthly or other. This is surprising to me as it tells me that horror films aren't watching among my audience that often, with four out of the seven responders only watching a horror film monthly. However, this means my film must stand out and be relevant and interesting enough to be that one horror film a month.

Questionnaire Q7+8 Data and Analysis

This question asked what feature of a horror trailer would entice you to go and see the entire film. There is a big range of responses. Three out of the seven said that a gripping and interesting narrative would draw them to go and see the film. This may be due to the fact that many horror film narratives are cliched and there is a need for fresh and interesting horror narratives among audiences. Two of the seven responses agreed that Jump Scares within a trailer would make them go to see the film. This tells me that jump scares are important in bringing in an audience through my trailer. The remaining two responses said humour and mystery. There are parts of small humour in many horror films, but the Black comedy/horror genre is still pretty small.

This question was a very open question and asked the responders for their favourite horror film. I received 7 different unique responses. This question is helpful as it lets me know what type of horror people are interested in. There is a distinctive lack of older films(or classics) and only modern horrors have been named. However, there is an interest in more alternative films, such as Cabin in the woods and critically successful ones such as 28 days later.

Questionnaire Q5+6 Data and Analysis

This question asked the audience what type of villain scares them the most in a horror film. The majority of responses agreed that a 'Psycho Killer' is the most frightening villain. This may be because it is more 'real' and possible unlike a supernatural villain, meaning the audience relates to it easier and is therefore more afraid as they see it as a possibility of happening. The remaining 3 responses said Zombies, Demons and ghosts. This informs me that supernatural beings are still of interest to my audience, thankfully as my film does involve the supernatural.
This question asked wether Documentary style horror films are effective in shocking their audience. Four out of the seven responses agreed that documentary style horrors are more effective in shocking the audience then a normal narrative horror. This may be due to the idea that it makes it seem more real and closer to you, therefore scaring you more. There were two responses that disagreed, showing me that there is an interest in classic narrative horror films.

Questionnaire Q3+4 Data and Analysis

Questionnaire Q1+2 Data and Analysis

This first question shows me that the majority of my responses agree that found footage films are effective in scaring their audience. Due to this information, despite their low budget and independent methods, there is a market for found footage films as they are thought to be scary and effective at raising fear in an audience. This lets me know that there is a market for my own found footage film and a genuine interest for the genre. There is two responses that believe found footage are not effective in being scary. This is a small amount but still something to keep in mind, I could potentially research more into the reasons why some audiences do not find found footage effective.

The responses to the second question have quite a big difference between the responses. 6 of the 7 responses agree with the statement that blood, guts and gore are not needed and that a good plan and thorough research are just as important. This is important for my film as while there will be some gore, it is more based around tension and therefore relies on a strong plot and strong  performances.
